Following DMC Canotec’s recent donation of ¬£12,500 to Starlight Children’s Foundation, we have helped to fund a trip of a life time for eight year old Maddie Shurmer from Swindon.
Maddie recently had herdearest wish to meetthe real Father Christmasin Lapland granted byStarlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children and young people with serious and terminal illness.
Maddie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in October 2013. After undergoing chemotherapy, Maddie is now in the ’maintenance phase’ in her recovery process. Maddie’s sisters, Florence and Willow, have played abig part in her recovery and are incredibly supportive and caring.
Maddie’s favourite time of year is Christmas so when she was referred to Starlight she knew exactly what her wish would be – a festive family holiday to Lapland to play in the snow, go on a husky sleigh ride and meet Santa!

Maddie couldn’t believe it when she heard that Starlight would be making her wish come true, she was so excited!
With her mum, Michelle, dad, Andrew and her sisters, Florence and Willow she spent a perfect four days in Lapland, where they enjoyed a breathtaking ride through the forest on a sleigh pulled by a team of huskies, rode on snowmobiles, met the reindeer and, of course, Mr. Claus and his elves.
The family drank warming cups of berry juice around the campfire, made snowmen, had snowball fights, went sledging and even saw the Northern Lights! By granting Maddie’s wish, Starlight brought some much-needed fun, laughter and happy memories to Maddie and her family just in time for Christmas.
