Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

The pandemic has caused major shifts in migration patterns, including huge movements of people in and out of urban areas.

Furthermore, climate change and conflicts tend to have disproportionate impacts on cities. These factors mean that the world is far from achieving the goal of sustainable cities. In many developing countries, slum populations have been growing, putting at risk the target of adequate housing for all by 2030. Since 2015, the number of countries with national disaster risk reduction strategies has more than doubled.

To achieve SDG 11, efforts must focus on strengthening capacities for planning for urban development, improving access to public transportation and enhancing waste management.

Our Work in This Area

Renewable Energy

With multiple office and warehouse locations across the UK, our goal is to power key sites with renewable energy as far as possible. Our programme started with solar panels being fitted at our headquarters in Southampton in 2021, with additional installs on our buildings across the country in progress.

Hybrid & Electric Vehicles

We’re committed to building a company vehicle fleet which is sustainable. As of Feb 2025, 87% of our vehicle fleet is either hybrid or electric, with full electric making up 25%. Electric vehicle charging is also being rolled out across our locations, with 6 of our sites currently having these installed. Our plan is to achieve 100% EV for both our company car and commercial fleets by 2030.

More To Come

Our internal SDG hub is currently receiving ideas from colleagues across our business on the next steps we can take to achieve this goal.
